Good lord has it been awhile since I've done this, time seems to be passing by pretty quick. Well, as of right now both the actors have emailed me back. Only problem is none of their days match up !!! So, I'm using a little guilt and we'll see where that gets us. As of right now it's looking to be Wed or Fri at 5:30pm. Editing the film is just as hard as I thought it would be. Thanks for trying to get me to understand it though Riley. Also, I'd still like to say that I think "Get Interactive With Ethics" is still by far the best name for our project. Oh and if we are meeting early or in our none classroom location will someone text me.
On a side note - Can you believe it, Ashley will be leaving us all very soon :( This blog is dedicated to you girl :)

Plagiarism and Our School
It's been a long time since I posted to this blog. Time always gets the best of me.
I read an article in the Ball State Daily News last week about software currently being tested by a few professors that helps identify plagiarism.
I had been trying to find some examples of this kind of software to help in identifying good scenarios for our project but never came up with one. With the software we're trying, professors can run text through it to identify lines of text that are copyrighted. These may not necessarily be plagiarized, especially if they are cited correctly.
I think the use of this software could be flawed in two ways. One, it's assuming that all students are guilty until proven innocent. Couldn't this kind of professor-student relationship be damaging rather than building? I certainly don't think it fosters a good learning environment. Professors are always on the look out that every student could be cheating, and every student knows their professor doesn't trust them. I'm not sure that it would be completely necessary to run every single paper through it unless something was suspected.
Second, this is a reactive approach to plagiarism. Approaching the problem of plagiarism or cheating with a system that allows it to happen and then seeks and potentially punishes is not the best way. We need a system that addresses this problem before it happens, outlining the cons to such actions and presenting a broad view of the results of an action. Our dynamic and interactive program on ethics is the proactive system that we should be using, at least in conjunction with the reactive programs that already exist.

Weekly Post 11/21/09
Whew! I'm relieved that we're done shooting all of our scenarios except for Cheaters, which will have to wait until after break anyway. Everything's finally coming together and I feel like I can almost see the light at the end of the tunnel.
We decided to do a video intro, and I volunteered to be one of the speakers. I'm uber-nervous, but I know it'll turn out well.
Editing will be taking over our lives after break, but we're almost done with the project! I can't wait to see it....I feel like a little kid in a candy shop!

Meeting 11/18/09
For Monday, we are hoping that we can shoot the last of cheaters. Don't email actors just yet, but wait for Riley to figure out when we can get the camera.
If we shoot cheaters Monday or not, we are still planning on doing the introduction video (granted we can use the camera). Emily will be talking about "we are a group of students from different majors" and be mentioning the immersive part of the project. Vic will be talking about "the goals of the project and how it affects students". Kara will "overview the website". We don't have a script written out, we want these to be more candid. The three of you maybe write a few sentences out for reference.
Tonight: There are various people meeting at various times. Kara will be there at 2:30 and Andrew will be there at 3:00. The rest of us are showing up at 6:30 to relieve them.

Weekly Post 11/14/09
Filming's almost over!!!!!!!!! Let the editing begin...
We only have a few scenes left to film for two of our scenarios, and then we'll be strictly editing and writing the content for the website.
I'm excited for next week, to be (hopefully) making a lot of progress on transcribing, naming audio and video files, and putting the scenario clips together.
